The attack on Iran is just staggeringly dumb!
Brief thoughts on the recent unprovoked attack on Iran
A digest containing some of the most important thoughts (by Alex Krainer) on the recent unprovoked attack by the United States / Israel on Iran. His full interview with Glenn Diesen is available on the Greater Eurasia Podcast.
This is the third time that the United States / Israel has launched attacks during diplomatic negotiations. The first instance was the attack on Hamas in Oman followed by the two attacks on Iran (in June 2025 and February 2026). From the Russian perspective -- the assassination attempt on Vladimir Putin, in particular must be looked at again -- and the Chinese perspective, this presents a significant geopolitical challenge. Is it even possible to deal with the United States on a diplomatic level?
By all accounts Iran made significant and surprising concessions during its diplomatic negotiations with the United States.
As far as the present situation (going into day 4 of the war), Iran possesses all of the cards. It’s at home, it’s dug in, they’ve been preparing for this encounter for over 20 years, they have enough missiles and drones to feed a 24-hour conveyor belt of missiles / drones against Israel and Western assets in the region. The attack on Iran is so staggeringly dumb, Alex Krainer states, that I still sometimes think, ‘did I dream this or did they [the United States] really do this!’
Alex Krainer muses on the (perhaps) deliberately blocked toilets on the US Aircraft carrier, Gerald Ford... Might this be a faux mutiny/protest by the “common” Navy to register their dissatisfaction at been used as “tools of Israel”? Other “technical issues” beset the US Navy during the United States’ attacks on the Houthis in March - May 2025.
The basic question we now must pose is, “What did Trump see as the upside in this attack?” From here on out...
“[For the United States], this is quicksand”.
