Illuminating Hidden Truths
Shining A Light
Our Purpose
In reportage, shining a light on a contentious subject should be uniform, objective and impartial.
All too often however, we can be dazzled by a subjective examination of a contentious subject, the reportage focusing our attention on one area whilst potentially blinding us to reality, the reality behind the issue(s). As with the moth, our attraction to bright colourful lights may not, in the long term, be in our best interests.
Light, when focused correctly, can illuminate to reveal hidden truths.
Our opening article includes a story (from January 2025) on the presentation of the presidential medal of freedom to a well known cultural icon. Does the presentation of such an illustrious medal reflect the reality of this person’s life achievements? Is the bestowal of such honours upon certain individuals designed to dazzle, ultimately persuading us to adopt their views and opinions?
Comments welcome
We welcome disagreement on the issues. It is how we learn to respect other perspectives. We disapprove of incivility however. [1]
